For this intensely visual book, I was in charge of taking historical artwork from around the world, and giving them new life as clean and modern illustrations. These digital drawings were mixed with photography throughout the layout.

Working with Village Earth Press and the author Rae Simons, I was part of the creation of an educational book series for children. The goal of this series is to teach young people basic animal care, as well as encourage compassion and understanding towards animals and the natural world around us. I believe the way to a kinder more responsible society is through the education of the younger generation as they mature.
A portion of all profits earned from the purchase of Animals Need YOU! will be sent to Every Dog’s Dream Rescue, an organization in Johnson City, New York, that works to find homes for cats, dogs, and other animals.
The series is available as five separate books (ranging from 52 to 68 pages), or as one combined 260-page volume.
Photos included in the books and promotional material are a blend of my own photography and sourced stock photos.

The Greening and Sacred Soil are both books which discuss the mindfulness and spirituality of gardening. Sacred Soil is a book of personal essays, and The Greening is a book of inspirational quotes and prayers. I worked with both authors to create custom line drawings and beautiful interior spreads that went with the text of each book.
“Contemplative Coloring” is a series of adult coloring books published by Anamchara Books. I was in charge of graphic design, as well as image gathering. About 50% of the images are my own illustrations, and the other half are sourced from stock sites or creative commons, all processed to be coloring pages.

These books each pair 101 quotes, prayers, and author writing about a unique subject. The books depend heavily on their design, filled with beautiful floral drawings (which represent the complex beauty that grows from one seed), and are made for mindfulness and contemplation. Above all, they must be beautiful to look at, and yet unique from each other.
I also work with the marketer/author/editor of the series to create both printed and digital advertisement materials for each book.

A 4-piece wedding invitation presented in a sewn fabric sleeve. The fabric sleeve’s botanical pattern is visible through the vellum envelope when closed. The floral frame and patterns, as well as the included map were illustrated for this project.

META is a self-published zine, made in collaboration with other artists in Purchase, NY, which discusses typography and contemporary design. My own article is titled “What Makes Art Ugly, and Why Do We Like It So Much?,” and discusses our culture’s use of grunge, deconstructionism, and “ugly” typography within design, while demonstrating my mastery of a gridded layout.
